Strengthening Healthcare Excellence Through ISO 9001 Lead Audits: My Journey Across IBN Sina Hospitals

Healthcare quality extends far beyond clinical excellence. It relies on robust governance, standardized processes, patient safety, risk management, and a culture of continual improvement.

As an ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor, I recently completed a series of quality management audits across three major hospitals of the IBN Sina Trust, strengthening healthcare governance through internationally recognized quality standards.

A Journey Across Three Leading Hospitals

Within a short period, I had the privilege of conducting ISO 9001:2015 audits at:

  • IBN Sina Hospital & Medical College, Kallyanpur, Dhaka
  • IBN Sina Dhanmondi Hospital, Dhaka
  • IBN Sina Hospital Sylhet Ltd.

These engagements formed part of comprehensive quality assessments covering patient care, clinical support services, operational management, and organizational governance under the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System framework.

Auditing Beyond Compliance

During the Sylhet audit, my assigned scope included several critical healthcare functions, including:

  • Radiology & Imaging
  • Emergency Services
  • Admission, Transfer & Discharge
  • Operation Theatre (OT)
  • ICU, HDU, CCU & Post-operative Care
  • Dialysis Services
  • CSSD
  • Infection Prevention & Control
  • Nursing Service Management

The audit focused not only on compliance with ISO 9001:2015 requirements but also on evaluating process effectiveness, risk-based thinking, patient safety, staff competency, documented information, and opportunities for continual improvement.

Delivering Value Through Governance

My auditing approach extends beyond identifying nonconformities.

Each audit is designed to help healthcare organizations:

  • Strengthen clinical and operational governance
  • Improve patient safety and service quality
  • Enhance process efficiency
  • Reduce operational risks
  • Build a culture of continual improvement
  • Align healthcare operations with international best practices

The objective is to transform audit findings into practical improvement initiatives that deliver measurable value to patients, management, and healthcare professionals.

Building Better Healthcare Systems

Healthcare organizations today require more than regulatory compliance—they need resilient management systems capable of supporting safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.

Through my work in healthcare quality assurance, enterprise governance, and digital transformation, I continue to support hospitals in integrating Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001), Information Security (ISO 27001), Enterprise Governance, and Business Process Excellence to build stronger, more sustainable healthcare institutions.

Quality is not achieved by inspection alone—it is built through leadership, standardized processes, continual improvement, and an unwavering commitment to patient care.
